Volunteer English Teacher

Shawna Lee spent one week during Christmas 2012 volunteering with the Volunteer English Teacher (V.E.T.) program.  She taught oral English working with grades 4, 5 and 6 at a public elementary school in the countryside of Yangshuo, Guangxi, China.  Working in one of the most beautiful places in the world with children eager to learn through tactile experiences, this teaching experience reinforced personal teaching philosophies and values as an educator trained in emergent curriculum.

SWAG

Shawna Lee became a new member of SWAG, the Suzhou Writers and Artists Group in September 2012.  

SWAG is an international group of published and non published writers and artists from countries currently including, England, Australia, Norway, The United States, and Canada.  SWAG meets regularly to discuss writing projects and opportunities, to share work and feedback and provide creative support.  SWAG’s latest publication is a collection of short stories entitled “Letters from SuZhou”  and are currently working on their next publication.

New poem to be published by The World Poetry Movement and The Poetry Institute of Canada

Shawna Lee’s poem “Silent Love” will be published by The World Poetry Movement, and by The Poetry Institute of Canada.

Shawna Lee is a semi-finalist in The World Poetry’s Movement’s International Open Poetry Contest.

The World Poetry Movement will publish “Silent Love” in what promises to be one of the most highly regarded collections of poetry they have ever published. The book will be called “Stars In Our Hearts” and is scheduled for publication in September 2013.

The Poetry Institute of Canada will include Silent Love in their 2013 anthology of verse entitled “Island Wonders”. (National Library of Canada, Ottawa ISBN 978-1-926774-20-6) “Island Wonders” will be a fine quality, hardbound deluxe volume of the best of today’s poetry. It is scheduled for publication in January 2013.

An Awesome Asian Adventure

Shawna Lee will be returning to China in August 2012.  She has accepted a one year teaching contract at Suzhou Regent International Preschool.   http://www.szregent.com/
The school is partnered with George Brown College of which Shawna Lee is an alumni of the Early Childhood Education program.  She will be teaching English and implementing a play-based curriculum to support a wholistic learning experience for international pre-schoolers.
In 2009, Shawna Lee taught ESL to children and youth in Northern China; in Benxi and in Bei Jing. While she is sad to leave her position and her colleagues at The University of Toronto Early Learning Centre, she is excited to return to China for a new teaching adventure and to explore the South of Asia.

Jammin To Jamaica 2011

Shawna Lee Campbell will be attending and speaking at George Brown College's 2011 Jammin to Jamaica fundraiser event. The event is to raise funds for The 2012 Jamaica Project , an international development/study abroad program started by Lynn Wilson and facilitated by Colette Kane.

Alongside Sonya Wilson, Sara King, Danielle Robinson and Stephany Molina, Shawna will be speaking about her experiences participating in the program this past January.

The video workshop consists of the video presentation and is followed by a brief instructional "how-to".

George Brown College Graduate

Shawna Lee Campbell is now an Alumni of George Brown College.

During her time at George Brown College, Shawna Lee participated in an international study abroad program/ development iniatiave: The Jamaica Project.

She participated in several volunteer activities at the college and participated in The Student Leadership Academy.

Shawna Lee also earned academic distinction by making The Dean's Honour List.

She graduated from the Early Childhood Education program this past Spring 2011.

She is officially registered with The Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
